Coronavirus Update From U.S. Representative Dina Titus

Dear Friend,

You’ve likely heard that Nevada has confirmed its first cases of coronavirus. This news is not surprising, so now is a good time to make sure you and your family have the resources you need to help stop the spread of this disease.

While there is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus, there are simple steps you can take to prevent illness:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. (The World Health Organization has a good guide for thorough hand washing).
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevent (CDC) does not recommend the use of facemasks for the general public to prevent the spread of coronavirus. You should only wear a facemask if a health care professional recommends it.

According to the CDC, the general public is unlikely to be exposed to the virus at this time and the immediate health risk remains low. People in communities where coronavirus has been reported are at elevated, though still relatively low risk of exposure.

Patients with coronavirus have mild to severe respiratory illness with symptoms of fever, cough, and/or shortness of breath. If you suspect that you are infected with coronavirus, call your doctor before seeking care at a medical facility.

I’m working hard in Washington, D.C. to ensure that every level of government has the resources needed to keep the public safe. I believe strongly that health care treatment must be affordable and available to all.

For the latest information and updates regarding coronavirus, I encourage you to visit the CDC’s website

Sincerely,

Dina Titus
Member of Congress
