Urijah Fabers Talks About The MMA Draft
On Saturday April 9, 2016, Forty (40) Future Stars of MMA Traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada To Participate in The 5Th MMA Draft Combine.
The MMA Draft Combine was founded by UFC Super Star Urijah Faber and MMA Rock Star Phil Davis 5 years ago. The April 9th event was being held at UFC Gym Green Valley, in Henderson, Nevada.
The purpose of the MMA Draft Combine is simple; the sport of MMA is EXPLODING and more amatuer fighters are needed. Matchmakers are hungry to fill their amatuer and pro fight cards with talented MMA fighters. Urijah Faber, Phil Davis, Evan Dunham, Gil Martinez and TUFF-N-UFF’s Bryan Lindsey and Jeff Meyer are looking for Amateur Martial Artists 18 yrs and above and Pro Martial Artists with 5 or less sanctioned competitions.
In order to develop the sport, new talent needs to be discovered. The core purpse of the combine is to evaluate talent, give feedback to that talent and if they qualify, select fighters will have the opportunity to WIN an amatuer or pro contract. The amatuer fight promotion is TUFF-N-UFF based in Las Vegas and the pro fight promotion “Pancrase” in Japan!
When I arrived at the “UFC Gym Green Valley”, you could feel an excitment and tention in the air. Fighters traveled from 5 states and up 1000 miles to participate. I saw a few amatuer fighters that I had photographed or interviewed in the past, including Marcel Hampton ( who Is Fighting at TUFF-N-UFF April 29, 2016) and Jerry Shapiro, both talented fighters.
The day was full of drills, learning, networking and FUN! There was something that stood out. Only ONE women participated in the MMA Draft, and she was FAST! Apparently, past MMA Draft events have had up to 10 female participants.
All in all it was a great day at the UFC Gym Green Valley.
