MARIO YAMASAKI INTERVIEW – July 3, 2014 During UFC Fight Week in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Meeting and getting to know Internationally Recognized Mixed Martial Arts Referee, Mario Yamasaki was a wonderful surprise. Yamasaki was the Head Referee for the IMMAF Championships.
Mario Yamasacki, born in Sao Paulo, Brazil first started training in Jiu-Jitsu in 1986. He is a 4th degree black belt. Mario is licensed in many states as a Mixed Martial Arts Referee but is most known from his association and duties as a referee with the UFC, The Ultimate Fighting Championship.

The IMMAF kicked off UFC Fight Week and started on June 30 and ended with the finals at UFC Fan Expo on July 5th at Mandalay Bay on the strip. There were a few hi-profile MMA folks that visited the IMMAF event during the week at Thomas & Mack Center. However, Mario Yamasaki was “The ROCK Star” that everyone wanted to get a photo with, including me, the fighters, coaches and all the other referees. Although, he didn’t ref one match in the cage for the IMMAF, Mario was at the cage all day, assisting the Referees when needed, including Rule explanations and clarification of the IMMAF protocol.
He was always willing and quick to take a photo and or sign an autograph. I probably drove him a little crazy at times, but he knew, this was a good thing. He is humble, caring and just a great guy.
When I asked him, “So What do you like to do for fun? And Mario responded, “EAT!”
We both had a good laugh and I now have a new friend!
I look forward to seeing and working with Mario Yamasaki again.
