IMG_2492UFC 189 Conor McGregor KNOCKS OUT Chad Mendes With 3 Seconds Left in Round 2!

Love him or hate him, Conor “The Notorious” McGregor knows how to get Cheeks In The Seats! He knows how to get people to look, listen and watch what he does. He understands fighting but also knows “SHOW BIZZ-NESS”! The more eyeballs you can attract the more money EVERYBODY makes! He doesn’t ask for your attention, Conor McGregor demands your attention. BOOM!

What a Great Way To Top Off UFC Fan Week, IMMAF 2015 and UFC Fan Expo! Wow!

McGregor, born in Dublin, Ireland began training in MMA in 2008. His coach, John Kavanagh is highly respected in the industry and was the first person in Ireland to get his Black Belt in BJJ, Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu. Bottom line Coach John Kavanagh has game!

McGregor Can Get Cheeks In The Seats!

This past week I was covering the IMMAF 2015 World Championships and got the chance to meet and interview Coach Kavanagh, as he was coaching TEAM Ireland in this Wold Championship Amateur Event. During the interview Kavanagh did say, he was looking forward to getting past the McGregor wrestling question… Click HERE To Watch Kavanagh Interview

FAST FORWARD: During the his fight with Chad Mendes at UFC 189, McGregor clearly has a strong standup game. And as expected, Mendes, a world class wrestler took McGregor down and held him down for almost 2 full rounds. Chad did get some elbows in, one of which cut McGregor above his  right eye.

Yes, they exchanged some punches in the first and second round, all the while McGregor was taunting him and playing to the crowd. McGregor’s antics  reminded me somewhat of Muhammed Ali!UFC Fights and Friends Urijah Faber and Chad Mendes

Mendes took a number of kicks to the body from McGregor and that obviously took him off his game. They both got some good punches in, and when they did, the crowd ROARED!!! It sounded like the entire country of IRELAND was there cheering their boy McGregor on. It was exciting.

Mendes was controlling McGregor on the ground.Late in the second round, McGregor was trying to break lose,  with about 10 second left in round 2, McGregor was able to get to his feet, landed a right , then a big left that knocked Mendes down. Conor McGregor proceed to bang out 4  fast punches to the side of Mendes’s head, which Mendes was covering with his right hand when referee Herb Dean stepped in and stopped the fight.

At first, I thought maybe this was a quick stoppage on Referee Herb Deans part. This was a title fight and I thought fighters were given a bit more room. I remember when Carwin was beating the hell out of Brock Lesnar, 20-30 punches while Lesner was down and the Ref didn’t stop the fight.  Here, 4 punches while Mendes was down and he stops the fight. There were 3 seconds left and he stopped the fight. Hmm.

I guess in that moment I really wanted Chad Mendes to WIN, to kick McGregors ASS and shut up his big mouth.

Then after they raised McGregor’s hand as the winner, I was looking at Chad Mendes. Chad did not appear to disagree with the call of Referee Herb Dean. When Joe Rogan was interviewing Mendes, he didn’t complain, he congratulated McGregor, said he was a tough guy and THANKED HIM for taking the fight on short notice.

For me, after the fight I had a change of attitude toward McGregor. During McGregor’s interview with Joe Rogan and post interview with Ariel Helwani, we saw a human side of Conor. A softer, humble and emotional Conor McGregor. We saw a guy that just realized a dream in front of the entire world, with millions of people watching, of becoming a champ, even though its the interim champ title, it’s still CHAMP.

Then I had to acknowledge to myself,  I AM a Conor McGregor FAN.  My issue was, I have been a Chad Mendes fan for a longtime and didn’t want to see my guy get hurt or lose. The fact is I like most of the fighters on the circuit today and I just want to see a great show.

From the minute the fight between Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo was announced, it has been a media circus! Aldo pulled out and Chad Mendes took the fight on 10 days notice.

From beginning to end, THIS HAS BEEN A GREAT SHOW!

A Big High Five to Chad Mendes for taking this fight at the last minute and to Conor McGregor for making this an EXCITING, FUN, AGITATING and AWESOME Event!

UPDATE: It was just reported that Chad Mendes broke his thumb in the 1st of this fight.

Early in the 2nd round Almeida Landed Perfectly Placed Left Knee To The Chin of Pickett.

Jeremy Stephens did miss weight at weigh-ins. Stephens received an accidental head butt and it opened up a gash over his right eye. Then Bermudez went in for a takedown, Stephens came up with a right knee, knocked him down and then Stephens swarmed all over him.

It was a 5 round bloody battle. First round was rather slow. Going into round 5 it was 2-2. Whoever won round 5 would win the fight. Lawyer WON by TKO 1:00 of the 5th round. MacDonalds face was a blood mess and appears to have broken his nose.
