MAGIC Apparel Show 2012 in Las Vegas – Media Un-Welome!

I’ve heard about the MAGIC Apparel Show for years. It is recognized as the largest fashion trade event in North America. This year the event was schedule for August 20-23, 2012 at The Las Vegas Convention Center and Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. I figured it was about time I covered the event.

I called the 800 line for MAGIC on Wednesday August 22 to ask about covering the event. MAGIC asked me if I had a business card with my blog’s name. I said “YES”. They said bring it with you to registration and they will get you a pass to cover the event. Ok, so far so good.

When I attend an event like this, I usually take hundreds of photos then make a video collage. Then I upload the video to various video sited like YouTube, and then post it on LasVegasNewsBlog.com. I get thousands of visitors a month just from all my video traffic.

So, I go through the trouble of parking the car and walking across the HUGE parking lot to the registration, only to be told, my site does not meet the requirements for PRESS Coverage.

I gave them my business card. They reviewed my website at registration and said to me, “You have never covered a Fashion Event on your blog so you don’t meet our criteria.” I was Suprised,Shocked and Speechless.

I said, “Let me get this straight, you probably have a HIGH PRICED PR FIRM that all they do is to try to get publicity for your SHOW or EVENT. Then when a LOCAL Media Company/Blogger comes to try to cover your event, you say NO.”

AsI leave I talk to few people about the  the event outside.

I ASKED VARIOUS QUESTIONS LIKE:
– Are You a Buyer or Seller?
– Was it a Good Show For You?
– Will You Be Returning Next Year?

Most of the 10 or so people I talked to all mentioned that they thought attendence was down. I thought that was interesting. I don’t know if that is a FACT, but that is what people told me.Another common compaint was MAGIC Changed the schedule. I quess they use to do the Mens,Womens and Sourcing a bit different and the people I talked to didn’t like it. Hmmm.

SO LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT…
 – MAGIC wants Publicity and Attnedee’s for their SHOW.
– Attendence Seems to Be Down According To Attendee’s
– It’s the last day of the event, with about 3 hours left and I can’t get a PRESS Pass   to cover the event.

I do understand the idea of having some kind of criteria for covering an event, but if someone has a legitimate blog, with real content, let them cover the event! If they ask to cover it again next year, ask to see the post they created from the previous year.

I’ve been posting content since 2008 and have over 10,000 post. No it’s not a FASHION BLog, but it is a local Las Vegas Blog which covers local Entertainment, Sports and Buisness type events, just like this one!

So in short I’m sure MAGIC 2012 in Las Vegas was a good show and lot’s of people did business. I was just a bit TICKED that I wasted my time in trying to cover the event. Yes I always need fresh content for my blog, but I was doing them a favor too! This is the first time I have EVER been turned down to cover an event in Las Vegas.

The interesting thing is, I am SURE any of the exhibitors would have LOVED to have seen there product featured in one of my Photo/Videos! You know how I am sure? I asked then exhibitors I met outside and EVERYONE one of them said YES!

What’s even more interesting, as of this writing, there were only 4 vidoes posted on YouTube about the MAGIC 2012 event! THAT’S a CRIME! A Show of this magnitude should have TONS of videos on and about the event.

Will I Apply To Cover The MAGIC Show 2013 in Las Vegas? NO! I’ve already wasted enough time on this event! I do wish them luck in the future though…
